Water Voices from Around The World - A great gift.

Water Voices From Around The World by William Marks is a book encapsulating water from a variety of cultural perspectives, as well as, the concern many have for its safety and our future on the planet. Amazingly enough it received the first place Gold Award at the world's largest international book awards competition for the category, "Most Likely to Save the Planet.

Hearing about the award, I emailed William Marks, the author, and asked if he had any ideas on how EDGE could use Water Voices from Around the World creatively to help more people connect to the work of water in a world with so many dying each day. I heard nothing and left it at that.

18 months later, I got a call from William. At first it took several minutes to even connect who he was and what he wanted. I was shocked he called and asked how he had remembered me at all. He simply said he, "keeps a lot of things organized." He called to offer copies of his book just for the cost of shipping in oder that EDGE could use Water Voices in anyway we could imagine to get the word out - sales, gifts, etc. The conversation was humbling and encouraging and two weeks later EDGE had more copies of Water Voices From Around The World than we could have ever hoped for - and boy have we used them!

Each book is met with great appreciation. For example, in May at a Disaster Response Seminar hosted by Southern Command, Kurtis Daniels and I gave Lisa Samson, Director of J9 one of the books as a gift for her investment and assistance with EDGE as we've worked alongside each other in disasters and in the Continuing Promise Program. When she opened the book she leapt with excitement. It's a beautiful, descriptive and woven story.

Today William Marks is helping many water organizations in a similar manner. We will ponder the work and writing of this powerful book for years to come thanks to friends like this - who've even waited in order to make the timing right to do something spectacular together.
