Shillong Children's Center

The Shillong Children's Center is a wonderful place for children and families to stay during times of emergency.  With insurgency, flooding, poverty to name a few, it is often children who find themselves hungry and on the streets.  Or their lives are in danger from the fighting between tribes and states.  The Shillong Children's Center is located in a suburb of Shillong in Meghalaya India.  The area is home to many different tribals and religions.  The people are, for the most part, quite poor.  In addition to poor living conditions the water is scarce and what there is is not healthy.

So, in June father and son team Mike and Matt Merritt came to Shillong with a water purification system and donations for beds, bedding, desks, school supplies, etc.  The guys sanded, painted and trained volunteers to operate the water purification system.  And in the process made many new friends on the other side of the world!

Suetta Albin, founder and director of the center will share the purified water with schools, churches and residents in the Nongmynsong area.  Through the work of Mike and Matt, their church (Dardenne Presbyterian Church) and EDGE OUTREACH India the shelter is ready for service and the village of Nongmynsong can worry about one less thing through clean, safe drinking water.
