More than just training
Calling the EDGE Hand Pump training class "just training" is like calling a flight to the moon just a trip. This training is a three day class that includes pump theory, hands-on pump disassembly and reassembly, problem solving, team building, role playing involving a “local village chief” and a “trip” to a third world out back country to repair broken pumps.
The eight students participating in the class are from three different states (Kentucky, Texas and Tennessee). At the conclusion of the class all eight students will have the knowledge and skills to go to the far reaches of the earth and repair wells for people that they do not know and will probably never see again. What greater gift can you give someone than life sustaining water, knowing all the time the gift is given with absolutely no repayment possible or expected?
These students have come to this class with only a general desire of wanting to have an impact on the world’s less fortunate, those that were born where clean, safe drinking water does not exist. Through this class these students will be offered a glimpse into what others have witnessed, experienced and accomplished through the life changing actions of repairing broken hand pumps.
At the completion of the class these graduates will have not only the original desire to have an impact on the world, but now have a newly minted skill that will allow them to carry out that desire.
