Continuing Promise 2011
Follow the Team on the Continuing Promise blog
Continuing Promise is an annual humanitarian event lasting 4 months, planned and deployed by U.S. Southern Command. Non-governmental organizations, military teams and leadership from various nations work together doing various humanitarian work in medical, veterinary, dental, and engineering projects. Ports of call are visited by groups traveling aboard the USNS Comfort or the USS Iwo Jima and located throughout the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

How EDGE OUTREACH got Involved
EDGE developed a partnership with Southern Command during the Haiti earthquake and transported our Water Disaster Response teams to respond. As a result, Southern Command invited EDGE to Miami, FL in May of 2010 asking for "a presentation on how EDGE is able to make a large footprint with a limited amount of resources." As a result of that meeting EDGE, was granted transportation to disaster responses in the future, opportunities to train certain military personnel in water, and an invitation to participate in Southern Commands' Continuing Promise Program.
In August 2010, working on the northern coast of Haiti from the USS Iwo Jima, EDGE's participation was to conduct health and hygiene events with the Haitian people in medical clinics.
In November, 2010 EDGE trained a military team to go to Panama and install a mini-water treatment plant there.
Continuing Promise 2011(CP11)
The EDGE team will work off the USNS Comfort doing health and hygiene programs, providing pure water hand washing stations for medical personnel to use in medical clinics, and hosting training events for NGO's and military personnel in our water disaster response work. Continuing Promise is from April-August, 2011.
Hear from the team daily on the blog.
